A Tahitian Wedding

[...] [EDIT]: This is not a real wedding as some of you might think. This was a show at the Polynesian Cultural Center that depicts a Tahitian Wedding. More information on this show here

The sound of drums could be heard from a distance. The lights gradually dimmed out and the tempo and volume of the drums picks up to a deafening blast. In a few moment, the music and everything stopped, it was pitch dark and dead quiet. The only sounds that could be heard were the whispers... "Tahiti".

  2. please change the title to Tahitian dance Aamir. Where is the atmosphere ? Looks like the whole thing is staged for the tourists.

and oh, by the way, this is not a real wedding. It is a show at the polynesian cultural center in which the tahitian wedding ceremony is enacted.

  4. Rauf, this is not a real wedding and this indeed is a show for the tourists at the PCC. You can find more information about the Horizons shows at the Polynesian Cultural Center here. I should edit my post and mention that. This was a show at the PCC where the tahitian wedding was enacted. It looked so real. As for what i read, their weddings are not as lavish and there are not a lot of people attending it. Everyone who attends the wedding dances for the bride and the groom.

  5. These are stunning and I love the bold colours! I'm amazed you got such great shots with good definition as I remember the lighting was rather low.

  10. Corinne, thank you. I was seated in Row T, and that was pretty far from the stage. My lens could zoom only to a max of 135mm and these are crops from the pics i got.

Yes, you got it. The lighting was pretty low, but the spotlights kinda helped at times. All shots were handheld.

Thanks for your comments :) Take care

  16. ari4u forgive my ignorance...but doesn't those hats that the women are wearing look similar to what the Pope wears on his head? is it just my imagination? are those crosses under the circle on hats? interesting.

  17. starry, when you go to Hawaii the next time, try to visit the Polynesian Cultural Center in the island of Oahu. It is great fun.

  19. Im glad its not a real wedding. Cos even tho it's really nice, I dun think weddings should be taken place on stage and like a show. It's a very personal moment in 2 ppl's life and it should be done with close family n friends and on a beautiful and simple note.

btw Im bakk Ari! So get back to commenting in my blog lol!

    Keshi.

  25. Keshi, welcome back! Hope you had great fun. I will head over to your blog to see what stories you pull out of your spice bag ;)

I agree with you. Weddings are fun, but real ones shouldnt be made a public display and staged. The spirit of the wedding is lost then.

    Take care
